Bookcases to bay window seat
Cindy always wanted a window seat/bay window thing in her living room. Here's how she fulfilled her wish with a few Traby bookcases.
She says, "I adapted some Traby bookcases to form a window seat that doubles as a daybed for visiting guests!
The units are basically different size Traby shelf units doubled up so that it's wide enough to be a bed. I left out the back wall to the front set of shelves so that the hole goes all the way through. The holes can accommodate Bastant baskets.

I love the Traby stuff, but It looks like all the Traby stuff is discontinued? Or am I missing it.
I used it to make a bed frame. 5 down each side and 3 at the front. Some plywood on top and voila. Store winter/summer stuff in the void underneath and socks, magazines, small garbage can etc in the other cubbies.
I was hoping to get more drawers (have 1 at each side of the head of the bed for 'bed side table' stuff). Sucks.
That is so awesome! What a beautiful way to create a comfortable seating area and a ton of storage space, all in one whack!
Would Expedit work?
very nice. I find träby rather expensive, though. I agree that expedit might also work.
Could we get some more photos or a link to a how-to?
In specific, I'd like to see the bed without the mattress, so that it's clear how the Traby units were used to construct the bed, and how they're configured.

The Billy Stuff might work -- though the doors wouldn't work for setting the bookcases on their sides.
what did she use for a mattress there? A regular mattress or what? A twin bunk mattress? Something homemade?

Hi everyone! Thanks for all the lovely comments! To answer some questions, I had a local upholsterer dude cut a foam sponge thing to the dimensions of the bed area. As for the configuration, I hope to post a video of the hack soon so you can see how it's arranged. I'll add the link here once I'm done. Thanks again!

The bookshelves cost me $600.
I'm sad the Traby is being discontinued. I can't find them in the Ikea website any longer, and I need some more modules to complement a previous configuration I currently have.
Someone said they were expensive, but the finish was way better than things like Billy and Expedit. Just look at the solid feel of the backing board in Traby - they are not cheap cardboard, but veneered plywood.
All in all, I believe this policy in Ikea is bad for consumers. What is the point of buying modular furniture like Traby, if, when it comes time to expand your configuration after a few months, they are off the market and discontinued? Shame on you, Ikea.
I'm in the same situation... I'm missing a couple of traby doors and now i can't find them anywhere!
We should start a internet campaign or something called "Bring Traby Back"! :(
I, too want to add to my Traby collection with a couple more shelving units, and am VERY disappointed that Ikea has discontinued them. It would be helpful if Ikea would make available information on where customers can continue to purchase component parts/add ons for lines like Traby that they have discontinued carrying.
Maybe you should post on Craigslist to see if anyone has what you need that they aren't using, or are willing to part with! What about eBay?
